About Me

Hi there!

My name is Kayla, and I am a wildlife artist. I love animals, and am inspired by them every day. I live with two cats and two Guinea pigs, and have been riding horses since I was five years old. I am an aspiring vet and artist.

I started creating art in preschool, drawing squiggly purple lines that gradually transitioned to line and circle horses in kindergarten. Elementary school marked a transition to corner suns and simple animals. My art teacher planted a creative seed in me, encouraging me to keep drawing. Soon middle school came, taking time away from my practice.  But by eighth grade my new art teacher inspired me again. I spent time in art club, working hard until my very first art show. I was so proud of my new horse drawings and my stickers. Ninth grade really sparked the artist in me. My new teacher, a harsh grader at the beginning pushed my art to the next level. There was nothing like the disappointment of that first B after having received A’s in art across the board. I spent more time working, honing my skills, sketching animals and their lives. That year I produced some of my best pieces. With more encouragement and critique from my teacher the A’s and unexpected praise from others kept coming. Entering that same art show from eighth grade again was a real full-circle moment as my art finally was something people wanted to look at. I received the silver palette award, marking the best artist in my class of 400.

Now I’m in tenth grade. I discovered my now art tutor, an accomplished artist. My art rocketed to something adults admired.  I worked with new media. I tried acrylic and watercolor for the first time and loved it. I made drawings in black and white, and relearned colored pencil.  I took an interest in digital art, making new stickers. I won my first art award at an official contest.  Now I want to take my art to the next level by offering it to the world.

Thank you for being here.  Sharing my art with you is the greatest privilege.
